Frequently Asked Questions
What are the differences in the offered jersey materials?
For jerseys, the choices are the standard AMP fabric that Voler has been using for many years … or the top-end SQ Pro fabric for a couple of dollars extra. SQ Pro is the premier cycling jersey fabric in the industry, and seems to have only one downside - the small extra cost. The breathability and shape retention of SQ pro fabric has no peer. The small block micro-mesh construction creates a unique look and feel that enables air to easily pass through the fabric, and moisture to wick to the outside. Also exclusive to SQ Pro is the addition of Mynx UV – a product that is bonded to the yarns. This treatment - that greatly increases the UV-reflective properties of the garment - coupled with the physical construction of the fabric keeps you noticeably dryer and cooler than the standard jersey material. If you like the size of your past club jerseys, but found that they sag too much and won’t hold their shape – the SQ Pro option will solve that issue while also keeping you more comfortable.
Sizing
Click on the "sizing" tab of any item to see a sizing chart. Club Cut jerseys fit looser and are the same fit as the annual March Madness jerseys. Race Cut jerseys fit closer to the body and have less volume. The back of Race Cut jerseys don’t drop as low, making the pockets a bit higher. Shorts are sized similarly to Pearl Izumi, so if you know your PI size, you can order the same from Voler. On the Club Kit order form, there are links to products on Voler's site.
Full zip or ¾ hidden zip jersey?
The two main differences between the full zip and ¾ hidden zip jersey are appearance and ease of entry/exit. You can see the entire zipper on the full zip jerseys, so the ‘V’ in ‘DAVIS’ is split by a solid white line. With the ¾ hidden zip jersey, the zipper is sewn inside the jersey, so when it’s closed you don’t see that white line – hence the use of the term, ‘hidden’ – and none of the graphics or color panels are interrupted. Some people are okay with splitting the graphics, others like the unblemished look. Regarding ease of entry/exit, the full zip jersey comes on and off just like a jacket or button-down shirt – easy. You gotta pull the ¾ zip jersey over your head like a t-shirt to get it off, which can be a major pain when you’re wearing bibs, your jersey pockets are full, you’re crammed into a port-a-potty, and really need to go.
Bib shorts or shorts?
This is a personal preference thing. People who wear bibs say they love them and people who wear shorts either hate bibs or have never tried them. The lack of waistband and suspenders make bibs very comfortable, but can also make you feel hotter (as in temperature). Also, having the bib compress your middle and slim down the belly chub a bit is a nice bonus. Voler redesigned the waistband of their shorts for 2010, so it’s less noticeable. If you’ve never tried bibs, now might be your chance. It’s almost impossible to get bibs of this quality at this price. Based on 2009 ordering patterns, men overwhelmingly ordered more bibs than shorts. Women showed the opposite trend, ordering more shorts than bibs, but not by as large a margin. If you go for the bibs, your life will be a heckuva lot easier if you also go with the full zip jersey. Do it. You’ll thank me later.
What are the differences in the offered shorts materials?
The standard "Triton" fabric is smoother with a bit of shine. It is a great low-cost alternative that has been offered for many years (though under different names). Voler's current "elite" fabric for bike shorts is called "Forza HC" and is intended for racing (just like most of the equipment that we use and don't race with). It is high-compression (hence "HC"), has surface dimpling, and is more opaque (less see-through) than their previous (yet very similar) "elite" fabric. It is lighter weight, a bit more form-fitting and theoretically just as durable as the Triton.
What’s the differences in the offered pads?
Women now have the choice of the Diamante, Estrella and Trllogy pad. Men have the choice of the Torino, Estrella, and Trilogy pad. Please visit the product page for each type of shorts and scroll down to view the description of each pad type.
