March Madness Photo Contest

Info about the March Madness photo contest

As part of March Madness, DBC also hosts a March Madness Photo Contest.  2010 marks the Seventh Annual contest. Prizes are awarded in the following categories:

  • Action
  • Allegorical
  • Bike-Specific
  • Blue Squirrel (for “quirky” and especially, uh, interesting photos)
  • Human Interest
  • Humorous
  • Landscape
  • Portrait
  • Best of Show

Award winners will be announced in the newsletter and presented at the March Madness banquet in June.  Here's a link to the 2009 photo contest.

Here's how the contest works:

  • All photos must be taken sometime in March 2010.
  • All photos must be submitted by April 10, 2010. Options for submission are set  out below.
  • You can, and should, designate which category (or categories) you want your picture to be included in; the judges may, however, decide they also belong in additional categories.
  • All judges' decisions are final, and the presents nice, but nothing to fight over.
  • All entries will be shown as part of a slideshow at the March Madness banquet.

How to submit photos for consideration:

  • Post pictures to the DBC Photo Gallery
    • DBC has an online web gallery.   Any person who registers with the gallery can post pictures there.  All pictures should be posted to the "2010 March Madness" folder (link coming soon).
    • Maximum file size is 1280 x 1084 pixels; smaller is better, but there is no need to go below 640 pixels on the longest side. Please remember to reduce your file resolution to 72dpi.
    • Use tags to place your photo into all categories you think apply.
    • There is a full set of instructions to get you registered with the gallery site and to upload pictures at http://gallery.dbcnewsletter.org/v/how_to/.
    • Please remember: upload all pictures into the 2010 March Madness Photo Contest flder, or we'll never find them.
  • Send your digital pictures to someone else to post for you
    • If you do not feel comfortable posting pictures to the gallery, we'll do it for you.  Contact Steve Macaulay and he'll take care of it.
    • Before sending any pictures to Steve, please resize them to reduce file size (100-150k) and make sure they are in JPG format.
  • Print them out and mail them
    • Prints can be submitted too – we’ll scan them and return the originals. Contact Steve Macaulay to make arrangements.
