DBC Junior Race Team Dominates Land Park
With several riders in contention for the Junior Points Series, the DBC Juniors come out in force for the 3rd contest of the series at the Land Park Criterium in Sacramento.
The performance of the day and of the young season was by 18 year old Alexander Freund. In the 40 minute Juniors race, he easily separated himself from the field to take first place in the Men’s 17-18 category. Three hours later, Alex was racing with the big boys in the Pro/1/2 race and took 6th in the final sprint! This is amazing not only because Alex is only 18 and competing against older riders with much more experience and many more years of training, but he must use “Junior” gearing.
Other Junior winners at Land Park included Annie Darst in the Women’s 17-18, Kennedy Hill in the
Women’s 10-12, and Nathan Fiori in the Men’s 10-12. Also placing highly were Anil Tuli with a second in the Women’s 10-12 and Alexander Richardson finishing 8th in the Men’s 17-18. A strong contingent of riders in the Men’s 13-4 from the DBC Race Team included Curtis Trueblood (5th), Sam Hill (6th), Matthew Dailey (8th), Kyle Fiori (9th), and Julian Bonilla-Rangel (11th).
In addition to the Juniors, strong performances were put in by several of the Elite and Masters riders. The Elite 3 squad continued their success with several
members on the verge of upgrading to Category 2. Jeff Schaller led the group with a 5th place finish followed by Jason Martel-Dye in 8th, and Michael Claudio in 9th. The Cat 4 racers also did well with a 2nd place finish by Greg Chapla in the 35+ Cat 4 race and a 5th place finish by Ryan Odell in the Elite 4 race.
