The focus of this ride series is to provide an opportunity for RUSA (Randonneurs USA) members to earn their R-12 award by completing at least one self-supported 200-kilometer ride each month for 12 consecutive months. The rides will feature local and regional "permanents" with an occasional club-sponsored brevet.   For more information on permanents, please visit the RUSA website:  http://www.rusa.org/perminfo.html and http://www.rusa.org/permfaq.html

Most rides will be held on the first or second Saturday of each monthly to maximize opportunities to "make up" missed or rained-out rides.  During the summer months, rides will start early in the morning to avoid the heat as much as possible, usually at 6:00 AM.  Fall, winter and spring start times will generally be at 7:00 AM.  We'll ride at a brisk pace, 16-18 miles per hour, but will emphasize the social aspects of group riding. The choice and starting time of each month's ride will be announced on the DBC listserv 2-3 weeks in advance of the ride to facilitate registration.  Individual riders are responsible for registering themselves for each ride with the appropriate permanent owner or brevet organizer.

The May2012 edition of this ride will be the Valley's, Hills, and Vineyards Howell Mountain Loop 200k permanent.  This is a moderately hilly ride, perfect for prepping for the Davis Double Century!  The route starts from the Nugget Market in South Davis, travels across the Sacramento Valley to Winters, climbs up and over Cardiac Hill, passes Moscowite Corner, then follows Sage Canyon Road (Highway 128) down to the Napa Valley.  We'll ride a few miles up the valley to the control in St. Helena and have lunch at the Model Bakery. After lunch, we climb up Howell Mountain Road and drop down to Pope Valley, then head back home via Priest Valley, Capell Valley, climb the back side of Cardiac Hill, then back out across the Sacramento Valley to Davis. Route and registration details are on the DBC website permanents page

Please note: RUSA rules and liability insurance require that all participating riders be RUSA members and registered for the permanent being ridden. The route owner has graciously offered to waive registration fees for this permanent; however, RUSA membership is to ride this permanent. Information about RUSA membership can be found at http://www.rusa.org/join.htm
